Our company deposits are located where the limeStone(Cafe Imperial)s of Ferrobamba and the Abancay Batholite outcrop. The Cuzco-Apurimac Iron Belt consists in a 300 Km length and 10 -100 km width belt, which host the following deposits with geologic reserves: Iron mineral outcrop Outcrops MT (Millions) % Fe % S % SiO2 Apurimac 1 50.0 65.6 - 66.4 0.04 - 0.10 3.0 Apurimac 2 50.0 64.5 - 65.7 0.03 - 0.06 4.2 Apurimac 3 51.5 66.5 0.07 3.6 Apurimac 4 8.0 66.0 0.07 3.6 Apurimac 5 8.0 64.2 -- -- TOTAL 167.5 64.2 - 66.5 0.03 - 0.07 3.0 - 4.01 The exploitation program has begun in the surface outcroppings that correspond to the oxidation zone of the deposit and contain mainly minerals of Hematite (Fe2 O3) and Magnetite (feO4). It is estimated in 30 millions tons the ore reserves in the mineable oxidated zone, which assure to the company many years of exploitation of a high quality mineral. The exploitation process uses the "open pit" method and consists in drilling, blasting, loading and transportation from the mining front to the shipping port. For this purpose, we use pneumatic hammer-type drill, front loaders and backhoes of 20 MT of capacity. It is estimated in 130,000 MT the total movement of the material. The production operations are made to a height of 4,000 mt (13,120 feet) above sea level, and consist in the benefit process, loading and transportation from the mine to the shipping port. This process can be defined in the following 4 phases: 1. THE OPEN PIT OPERATION: - Drilling - Blasting - Loading - Carriage 2. THE BENEFIT PROCESS OPERATION: - Primary crushing - Jiggle - Secondary crushing - Jiggle - Storage in piles 3. THE TRANSPORTATION PROCESS OPERATION - Truck loading - Transportation from the mine to the shipping port. - Unloading 4. THE SHIPPING PROCESS OPERATION: - Transference from the stock-plant to the stock-wharf - Filling in the storerooms of the ship. - Mineral sampling (quality control) MARKET OF THE IRON ORE Our principal product is the "Lump Ore" of iron oxide for the process of Direct Reduction in which it is possible to obtained great results due to the excellent grades of the mineral such as it is showed in the link Benefit. The BENEFIT operation process is carried out in a plant annexed to the mine and consists in: 1.- Primary crushing, to reduce sizes to 4" of diameter. 2.- Secondary crushing, to reduce sizes below 1" of diameter. 3.- Sieving, smallest fines of 5 mm diameter are eliminated by the jiggling and accumulated to be marketed. 4.- Storage in piles, the product piled up in the Stocks is Lump ore with a diameter between 5 mm and 20 mm. Our final product has a high content of iron (67%) and its very poor of contaminants. Thats why it is considered as a high economic-value product, being accessible to blast furnace and/ or direct reduction processes QUALITY REQUIREMENTS Chemical and physical specifications required for the blast furnace and direct reduction processes are very strict for the obtained product.
